The ease of doing business score benchmarked economies with respect to their proximity to the best performance on each area measured by Doing Business. It captured the gap of each economy from the best performance observed on each of the indicators across all economies in the Doing Business sample since 2005. When compared across years, the ease of doing business score showed how much the business environment for local entrepreneurs in an economy has changed over time. An economy’s ease of doing business score was reflected on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 represented the lowest and 100 represented the best performance. The difference between an economy’s score in any previous year and its score in relevant year illustrated the extent to which the economy had closed the gap with the best performance over time. For example, an ease of doing business score of 75 in Doing Business 2019 meant an economy was 25 percentage points away from the best regulatory performance constructed across all economies and across time. A score of 80 in Doing Business 2020 would indicate the economy was improving.
